Guardianship is Not the Only Option: Supported Decision-Making for People with Disabilities and Their Families

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, Disability Rights Center – NH and Attorney Kerri Tasker hosted a free one hour Zoom discussion about supported decision-making (SDM), guardianship, and other alternatives to guardianship and how these can inhibit or promote the voices of people with disabilities.

Topics covered included:

  • Guardianship and its impact on a person’s rights and liberties.
  • Less restrictive alternatives to guardianship
  • The process to modify or terminate a guardianship.
  • Common questions related to supported decision-making:
    • What happens in an emergency?
    • What if a facility or business refuses to follow a SDM agreement?
