Vehicle Modifications

Consult your healthcare provider to determine the right assistive technology for your needs.

Vehicle Modifications

Adaptive vehicle modifications are changes made to a vehicle so you can drive or ride as a passenger safely and comfortably. These changes help make vehicles accessible for people with disabilities, giving you more independence and freedom to take part in daily activities. The type of modifications depends on your needs, abilities, and goals. Some changes are simple, while others require major adjustments and special training to use. Common adaptive modifications include:

  • Ramps and wheelchair lifts
  • Seat belt and seat adjustments
  • Safety bars and straps
  • Swivel seats
  • Hand controls
  • Accelerator and pedal modifications
  • Steering wheel adjustments, knobs, and amputee rings

How Can I Get My Vehicle Modified?

Depending on the type of modification you need, you can buy a vehicle that already has the changes or modify a vehicle you own. Before making a decision, it’s important to do your research and consult a driver rehabilitation specialist.
