Assistive technology relating to hearing includes hearing aids, vibrating or light activating alarms, and text telephones.

Basic  Info

A hearing aid is a type of assistive technology that helps individuals with hearing loss by amplifying sounds. There are several different types of hearing aids, each varying in construction, placement, requirements for care, durability, and cost. The most common types of hearing aids include:

    • Behind-the-ear (BTE)
    • In-the-ear (ITE)
    • In-the-canal (ITC)/Completely-in-the-canal (CITC)
    • Open-fit
    • Receiver-in-the-ear (RITE)

Who can use it? 

Hearing aids can be beneficial for individuals of all ages with varying levels of hearing loss. 

How can it help?

Hearing aids can help individuals with partial hearing loss to listen, communicate, and participate in daily activities by amplifying sounds in the environment.
