Know Your Rights – Disability Parking Placards

DRC-NH recently became aware that the NH Department of Safety Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) was charging qualified individuals $5 for removable windshield disability parking placards.  We notified the DMV that charging a fee for parking placards violates the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)’s prohibition against assessing surcharges upon individuals with disabilities to cover the costs of measures they require to enjoy equal access to their communities.

As of October 11, 2018, the DMV has stopped charging a fee for disability placards.

The updated application is available at https://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/dmv/forms/documents/rdmv130.pdf.
