Accessing an Afterschool Program

We received a call from Cristle, asking for help for her 6 year old daughter, Ella.  Ella wanted to attend an aftercare program with others from her school, but the program refused to allow her because she uses a wheelchair and needed help to transfer from her wheelchair to use the bathroom.  According to the program director, the program could not accommodate Ella because everyone on staff refused to help her.

Cristle tried and tried to come up with a solution so that Ella could attend, but the program director continued to refuse and Cristle called us for help.  Our attorney contacted the attorney for the afterschool program to explain the situation and Ella’s right to attend the program.  Very quickly, the program agreed to enroll Ella and provide the help she needed.  Ella’s now enjoying her after school program with her friends.
