Your Rights

The following is a summary of your legal rights and protections. Exceptions apply – Ask Us.*

  • You have the RIGHT to be treated with dignity, courtesy, and respect by your peers and staff.
  • You have a RIGHT to live in a safe environment free from abuse, neglect, and discrimination.
  • You have the RIGHT to be free from restraint and seclusion.
  • You have the RIGHT to make a complaint or file a grievance without fear of punishment or retribution.
  • You have the RIGHT to help create your own care plan and to manage your own money including choosing someone to assist you if you want.
  • You have the RIGHT to medical, dental, and mental health services.
  • You have the RIGHT to keep and use your personal belongings, to room with your spouse, and to be notified of room or roommate changes.
  • You have the RIGHT to send and receive mail and email, have visitors, and make phone calls.
  • You have the RIGHT to have your services explained clearly, including to have an interpreter, if needed.
