We Are Hiring – Advocate
Disability Rights Center – New Hampshire (DRC-NH) is looking for a passionate individual with intellectual or developmental disabilities to join our team as our Medicaid Community Advocate.
In this job you will:
- Work on issues related to the upcoming changes to Medicaid.
- Advocate for people with disabilities whose Medicaid services will be affected by the upcoming changes.
- Support people with disabilities to advocate for themselves around Medicaid issues.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position with benefits, including paid vacation and sick leave. This job pays $25.00 per hour. You will work about 10 hours per week.
The job is expected to last 18 months. It may continue longer if additional funding is available.

- Has personal experience with New Hampshire’s Medicaid Program
- Works well with other people
- Can follow directions and share their own ideas
- Can keep track of the hours they work

Detailed Job Description
Title: Advocate
Job Type: Non-Exempt, 10 hours/week
Position Purpose: The responsibility of the Advocate is to advocate for people with disabilities and support people with disabilities to advocate for themselves in identified problem areas. The Advocate reports to the Community Outreach Specialist.
Specific Essential Responsibilities:
- Engage with disability advocacy groups across the state to identify and work together to address barriers faced by people with disabilities.
- Coordinate with ABLE NH on assigned task forces and other community collaboration.
- Collaborate with people with disabilities to identify opportunities for advocacy, develop their advocacy stories and advocate with policy makers, state officials and other groups.
- Assist in the development of informational flyers, webpages, videos and other DRC-NH advocacy tools.
- Educate policy makers, state officials and others about the barriers faced by people with disabilities.
- Share information about DRC-NH and assigned project(s) at designated outreach events or meetings.
- Represent people with disabilities and DRC-NH in coalitions as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Document time/activity in accordance with agency policies and program expectation. Perform related responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain well organized records, in accordance with DRC-NH’s policies and procedures and the policies and procedures of program funders.
- Other duties which may not be included within this position description, but furthers DRC-NH’s mission to serve people with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Direct experience as a person with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to civil rights, including the rights of people with disabilities.
- Effective and respectful communication.
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of computers and related technology.
- Ability to work in the DRC-NH office as needed, in accordance with DRC-NH’s polices and procedures.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
