A Proclamation

In the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT AWARENESS DAY

July 26, 2020

 

WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990 to ensure the civil rights of citizens with disabilities and usher in an era of independence, freedom of choice, control of their lives, and fair opportunity without barriers; and

WHEREAS, the ADA protects people with disabilities against discrimination by employers, public entities, public transportation, public accommodations, commercial facilities, telecommunications, and empowers Americans with disabilities to achieve their full potential; and

WHEREAS, New Hampshire affirms the principals of equality and inclusion for persons with disabilities as embodied in the ADA and the laws and ordinance of the Granite State; and

WHEREAS, numerous organizations throughout New Hampshire are dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities, and work with constituents and communities to bring forth the promise of hope and freedom that is envisioned by the passage of the ADA; and

WHEREAS, July 26, 2020 celebrates the thirtieth Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHRISTOPHER T. SUNUNU, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2020 as Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Day in the State of New Hampshire, and join the Disability Rights Center and the Governor’s Commission on Disabilities in celebrating the 30th anniversary of this historic legislation.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the State of New Hampshire to be affixed this 1st day of July, 2020.
