Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT)

EPSDT is a Medicaid program for children under the age of 21. Under EPSDT, a wide range of comprehensive and preventive health care services are available to children. Many parents are not aware of the services available under EPSDT, so it is a underutilized program. Services that states must provide under EPSDT include: Screening, immunizations, lab tests for lead toxicity, health education, vision, hearing, and dental services, and other necessary health care, diagnosis, services, and treatment to "correct or ameliorate defects, and physical and mental illnesses and conditions discovered by the screening services".
